Bright Victoria

Bright Victoria is undoubtedly one of Australia’s most popular regional tourism destinations. Located approximately three hours north east of Melbourne this well known destination is located in an area that offers a vast number of attractions both within the town itself, or within a short distance. It is well known for its close proximity to the Victorian snowfields as well as the regional gourmet food and wine trail. There are also many local outdoor pursuits which can be easily embarked upon from within a short distance from your accommodation in Bright.

Bright is well known for its autumn festival when the many deciduous trees head into the cooler autumn weather and their leaves morph through a colourful process before heading into the dormant winter months. The festival includes a number of open gardens, tours, dinners and nightly entertainment.

Whether you are keen skier or are just passionate about the great Australian outdoors then Bright is definitely a place to visit. There are a number of ski-fields close by that offer trails for beginners and advanced snow lovers. The region also has a number of excellent walks and tours but without any doubt the regular cycling events are a huge attraction.

Food and wine is another big attraction in the region with a number of wineries, excellent restaurants and gourmet foods outlets all close by. Visitors to the region often take the opportunity to stock up with their favourite regional wines and local produce before heading home. The nearby village of Milawa is famous for its cheese factory, olive shop and mustard shop. Closer to Bright are the always welcoming family at the Deer Farm where you can feed everything from ostriches to goats and deer. You can then wander inside to enjoy the stunning views and the local farm produce.

There are also, depending on the weather, a number of comfortable day trips from Bright. The very popular village of Beechworth is only forty minutes away and is widely regarded as Victoria’s best preserved gold mining town and has established links with the colonial bushranger Ned Kelly. There is also the Milawa gourmet region which is well worth a day visit. When the road is clear and the weather fine visitors may like to head up the mountain to Mount Hotham, a popular winter ski destination but also an enjoyable summer day out. Further on is also Dinner Plain which is a quaint ski village with some interesting buildings and a very small shopping strip.

There is also an excellent selection of accommodation in Bright and in the surrounding towns and villages. Visitors can choose from the traditional motels and hotel arrangements but there are also a number of luxury styled resorts as well as some very affordable camping and caravan options. All are only a short distance to the centre of town and are close to the many attractions Bright is famous for. If you are planning to visit during school holidays or long weekends then be sure to book your Bright accommodation early. It is not uncommon, especially during these holiday periods, and the snow season for many of the options to be book out.
